Pledge $15 OR MORE DRM THIS!:As well as the Steam version, all $15 pledgers will be offered a DRM-free, caffeine free, gluten free, born free non-steam version of the PC game to download. ANOTHER REDDIT AMA coming this Friday 6pm BST!
Time details: 6:00pm - BST 7:00pm – CEST 9:00pm – MSK 1:00pm – EDT 10:00am - PDT We look forward to answering your questions! Well, I think that's about it for today. Thanks to Sim, Trifle, and Steve for helping me put this one together. And THANKS to our KICKSTARTER Backers TOO! Holding a gun? It's.our.
decision what we want to pay money for, and what we deem not worthy. I would have never considered backing a DRM-infested game, no matter how cheap. It was the only thing holding me back, and after this announcement I became a backer. It seems a LOT of people feel the same way, and hence the DRM removal has added quite a number of new backers.
If I don't buy something because I think it's not worth it's asking price, I'm not extorting the manufacturer. It's the producers' job to make the product their customers want, if they want to sell it. Not mine to be a charity. And @Gijs, you say you don't care about DRM, just about being able to play the game—that's exactly what the whole DRM issue is about though. DRM is the biggest danger of all to your ability to play the game you paid for.
Especially if you care about whether you can still play the game 5 years down the road, or on your laptop in a train or plane. Let's talk again in a couple of years, when it becomes even more obvious how software pirates are the only ones who enable us to keep software and games alive, because publishers have been too disrespectful of their paying customers. I'm glad Stainless chose to.reward. people who pay for the game, rather than punish them. @Charlie: irony and sarcasm won't change the fact that the DRM free anouncement has aldready, and will probably from now on too, make quite a lot of people pledge and/or raise their pledge.
What do you have to answer to that? Plus the fact that the DRM free game won't take that much effort for Stainless to do, since they're not adding multiplayer support for it (which would need a lot of coding I guess). Don't forget dude, KS is about convincing your audience. If Stainless finally went for a DRM free w/o multiplayer version of the game, it means that they thought it profitable in the long run. @doshu Yeah great. I am so glad the 7 people who hate Steam were able to get an entire company to focus their limited resources on making another version of the game just for you instead of spending development time on the game.
People demanding a non-steam version should be dead last in priority: Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Game Cube, iPhone, Android, iPad, N64, PS2, PS1, Xbox, PS4, Xbox 720, BeOS, Atari 2600, Windows Phone 7, Blackberry and then maybe the DRM free version assuming no one wants the PalmOS version first. Awesome news! I honestly didn't think the DRM thing would change. I'm glad to have bitched that much about it two days ago^^.
Still, I have one last thing I would want cleared out before raising my pledge. It's kind of a stupid/obvious question, but I really want to be sure about that. As all games, the game's gonna be updated by a few patches and probably extended by some extensions/DLCs.
Will those patches/extensions/DLCs be available for the DRM-free version of the game as well? This is an important detail for those wanting to invest quite a lot of money in the game, but not wanting to use Steam: the assurance to be able to play the whole game at the end of the road (except those Steam only features, of course). Since a lot of comments are being posted on the KS comments page, I'll post this one both here and on the main comment page. Sorry for the 'double' post:) And Viva Carmageddon!
Creator To clarify a couple of points: Yes, EVERYONE pledging $15 and above will get a Steam code in February, PLUS the DRM free version of the game when it's available. Higher tiers will also get the DRM free copy. @ MemoryKill: Your preferred method for mod management sounds like our preferred way, too. @ TutEvgen: Sorry for the lack of subtitles, but we made this Update movie today - and I only finished editing it at about 8pm this evening. We will try to update the videos with subtitles (especially those that are going to feature Sim) some time soon.
One of the most heavily traveled freeways in the United States closed for construction over weekends in 2011 and 2012. Some public officials publicized the closures by appealing to civic pride whereas others threatened nightmarish delays they dubbed “Carmageddon.” In 2011, contrary to many media predictions, traffic flowed freely at volumes far below normal levels. Our analysis finds that travelers did not switch routes, modes, or trip timing, but instead forewent thousands of trips. Travel behavior changes were far more modest and mixed during the second closure in 2012. Although the lack of traffic problems surprised many public officials, we find traveler responses to both events congruent with past research.
Traveler responses to the first event were more dramatic but short-lived, while more modest but durable responses to the second event suggest that travelers learned from, and were perhaps jaded by, the histrionics surrounding the first closure.
